Someone Dropped The Ball

Well, I knew it would happen. I let months go by without an entry. When life throws curve balls and things get so busy, some things get pushed down the priority list. Working 4 days a week and juggling all your schedules, Mama gets tired... ;)

This blog, however, should be important as it's memory lane, not just for me, but for you girls too when you get old enough to read this...and appreciate it :)

The last post was July 2013...Olivia's birthday. Much has happened since then.

Leah, you started to walk at the end of July. At a whopping 15 months old. Late compared to the other two but you were content cruising around holding on to furniture. Olivia, you were 11 1/2 months old and Jordyn, you were 13 months old. Jordyn, your first steps were to Tracey but don't tell Dad that ;) Olivia, your first steps were with me during the day while Dad was at work. He was a bit bummed he missed it. But I made sure you walked to him as soon as he walked in the door from work. You took maybe 2 steps :) Leah, your first steps happened when I wasn't there and I found out 2 weeks later!! What I thought were your first steps really weren't. I was so excited that you walked but Olivia piped up and said, "Oh that. Well, she walked a couple of weeks ago already." I think I sat there with my jaw to the floor thinking, "why didn't anyone tell the person who BIRTHED the child that she took her first steps??!" Silly beans :)

We rented a cottage at McCreary's Beach resort with the Bloye's last August and it was a blast. We had perfect weather and you guys looooved playing on the little beach they had. We had lots of campfires, played a few games, rode bikes and watched a movie or two when you got too tuckered to do anything else.

The beach was your favourite play area.

September, Jordyn, you started JK and you were raring to go! You weren't nervous at all. You couldn't wait to go to "Olivia's school" :) Olivia was excited to have you be at school too. You guys would come home and often tell me that you guys saw each other and would hug each other. Melted my heart to hear that...
"Play Day" at school

Leah, you started at a new daycare. Pam looks after you and you love it there. You've been out sliding on the snow hill, out for lots of walks, you play with her dogs (and come home with your pants full of dog hair...), you've helped her make cookies, and have done some crafts. You only go Mon/Wed/Fri as I'm home with you and Jordyn Tuesdays and Oma watches you guys Thursdays. You're dropped off at daycare happy and I pick you up and you're still happy. You are almost 2 (you're birthday is in 5 weeks) and when I come in the front door of daycare, you come running to me babbling all sorts of exciting things...none of which I can understand :) You're trying to talk and soon it will come. However, you are in the stage of whacking me at a moment's notice. There's no rhyme or reason to it - one minute your smiling and playing around with me and the next you get a scowl and you haul off and belt me one. I know this is a stage so I don't take it personally... ;)

Valentine's craft

We had a great photo session done in October. I won it by entering the cutest baby picture of Jordyn. It was the one after her bath and her hair was all over the place and she had the biggest smile on her face. I worked VERY hard to win that Facebook contest :) You girls were so well behaved during the photo shoot, I was amazed. The pics turned out amazingly beautiful. They really captured your personality. I cherish them and look at them every day on my cubicle at work. I call it my Sanity Wall :)

Beautiful day for a photo shoot

Christmas was wonderful because we got to spend it with The Pickfords out west. Even Auntie Tamara came. We got to see lots of friends and were able to hang out with Sydney and Brooklyn. Your favourite was the sleepover there. Jordyn, you often ask when we can have another one - I try and explain they are too far away and we have to get on a plane but that doesn't seem to matter to you. You still want a sleepover and now :) We stayed at Nana  and Papa's and tried not to make too much of a mess while there. We went swimming with Uncle Todd/Brooklyn/Sydney, saw a movie with Auntie Tamara, Olivia, you came with me to visit my friend Sandy and we all visited my friend, Clarissa. Papa took you guys on lots of walks to the park. So much fun! The plane ride was...interesting... Leah, you were quite the handful. At 18 months, you didn't want to sit on our laps and be still. You were fighting us the whole 5 hours. Boy, was it a relief when that plane landed. You did manage to fall asleep 10 minutes before landing on the way there and not a wink on the way back. You little stinker :)

February was Dad's birthday. Olivia, you loved setting up the scavenger hunt for him. I love your creative ideas. It was a hoot. We ended up getting him the minnow catcher he was asking for.

We're in March now and, personally, I am done with the cold and snow. It's been a verrrry cold winter. Many week it's been -20 and -30. I think the coldest with the windchill has been -36. Brrrr! You guys, though, could have snow all year round. However, Jordyn, you've been saying that the sun needs to stay out and it's summer's turn to hang out. Funny :)

I've gotta say. You guys keep me hopping. It's an exhausting time but a wonderful time too. I love seeing you guys play together. Olivia, you are so patient with your sisters. You usually thinking up of some game to play with them and when you see me get a little exasperated, you jump in and distract the girls. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and anticipation. You definitely are a problem-solver. Love it! And Jordyn, you have really stepped up in the big sister role these past couple of months. You are often running around playing chase with Leah and I sometimes see her wrestling with you. Too funny. Your laugh bellows and that too makes my heart swell. Your encouragement doesn't go unnoticed either. I often hear you say to Leah "Good jooooob, Leah!". I love it so much. Leah, you are fortunate to have such wonderful big sisters who love you and take good care of you. You can always count on them to have your back. And Olivia and Jordyn, you are blessed to have Leah as your little sister. She gives you a chance to use the nurturing abilities God has given you.

And for me, I am beyond blessed to have you girls in my life. This is a very busy and tiring season for me but you guys really give me life. In my prayers with and for you every night, I always thank God for choosing me to be your mom. What an honour...

Till next time, my beauties.

Someone's turning 8....

Olivia, I am writing this pretty much in disbelief that you are turning 8 already. In literally 1 hour and 50 minutes, you will officially be 8 years old :) No booster seat - WHOO HOO! :)

You are growing into such a beautiful girl -- inside and out. I love you so much. You have such a compassionate heart. You are very quick to help someone in need. You are also very silly -- in a good way, of course. You tell funny jokes, you act goofy to get Leah to laugh, and you break out in silly dances :)

You make me smile every day, Olivia. You also make me wonder why God ever chose me to be your mom. I feel inadequate at times and pray that I am doing a good job.

I love your hugs, snuggles, and kisses. I love the pictures you draw me and the poems you write for me. I love how you make sure your sisters are having fun. I love how you don't quit - how you figure out how to complete whatever it is you want to get done. You are very resourceful - you definitely get that from Dad. You guys are two peas-in-a-pod when it comes to that :)

Your beautiful face lights up my day. I love you sweetie!

Now on to the fun stuff...take a look at the pictures from your birthday party last weekend. It was a flower theme and you had so much fun with your friends.

FOOD! Happy Birthday, Olivia!

And tonight you got your ears pierced!! We said you had to wait until you were 10 but we caved and thought it would be nice birthday present for you. You were so nervous but so very brave too. Your first pair of earrings - ruby studs - how special!

Happy Birthday, my sweet angel. You are a gift from God.

In memory of Great Granma Paluck

Granma passed away this morning. She fought hard after her fall a week ago but NaNa said she was ready to go. Your great Grandpa Paluck passed already so they will be reunited in heaven - what a reunion that must have been!

Here are some great pictures that we took when we visited her in Moose Jaw the summer of 2011. She was so tickled to meet you, Olivia and Jordyn :) Leah, you were a twinkle in our eye still so you didn't get to meet her but she did have pictures of you so she could see you every day.

Great Granma Paluck, you will be missed greatly but your memory will be cherished forever. We will have your picture framed and displayed so the kids will always remember you. You must be having such a great in heaven. We will see you again. Until then...

Leah

I took this pic of Leah last week because I thought she looked so darn cute in her sweatshirt. Do you recognize it NaNa? It's 12 months in size and it has fit her for a couple of months already. She can hold her own at 10 months :) She is 21 lbs already -- apparently, she's 78% for weight and 96% for height. That's my girl!

And she is definitely beginning to babble. I am almost positive that she is saying "mum mum"! It might be wishful thinking but I'd like to think she is actually calling me. YAHOO! Olivia's first word was "dada", Jordyn's first word was "YaYa" ("olivia").

Until next time....

Valentine's Day

I know this is a bit late buuuut as they say, "Better late than never."

Corey and I only started to 'celebrate' Valentine's Day a few years ago. I personally think it's a cash grab for our poor husband's. However, we celebrate it for the girls. This year, I made heart shaped pancakes and set a special place setting for them that had a necklace, stickers and some chocolate kisses. Corey buys the girls roses every year.

They came down the stairs with huge smiles on their faces! In Olivia's lunch I packed a heart-shaped sandwich, and strawberries (plus her regular lunch items). The littlest thing, like a heart-shaped sandwich, makes her heart swell. So adorable. For dessert after supper, I brought out chocolate dipped strawberries to many oooh's and aaah's. Doesn't take much to impress my little cuties - thankfully!

Girls - we hope you enjoyed this year's Valentine's Day. We look forward to celebrating many more with you.

Winter Wonderland

The last few weeks have seen LOTS of snow fall here in Ottawa. Just this past week, we saw 20cms fall. Of course, the kids LOVE it :)

On Corey's birthday, we went to Winterlude on what seemed to be the most beautiful day of the winter. Olivia and Jordyn had a blast going down the ice slides while Leah chilled out in the sled. Hopefully next yeare Leah will be able to enjoy the ice slides too. Here's a pic of us at Winterlude - we managed to squeeze everyone in :)

We visited with Oma and Opa too. Jordyn thought she'd get a little funky.

And the girls had a blast wrestling and playing around with Opa.

Today we are having friends over for supper and then we're going to 2 birthday parties - adults only! WHOO HOO - date night for Corey and I!

Until next time...

A New Milestone

Leah has REFUSED to drink much of anything except for nursing. I have tried for a couple of months to get her drink from a sippy cup. That was a big fat fail!

She eventually would take a sip or two - a day - if I took the top off and put the cup to her mouth. But then so much would come out she'd choke. Which meant she wouldn't drink anymore that day. SIGH!

I wasn't too concerned because she had a good amount of wet diapers and she didn't seem dehydrated. Still,  Olivia and Jordyn were drinking from bottles at 3 months!

Finally, this week, she started drinking from the sippy cup WITH the top on. However, she wouldn't if the 'slow flow valve' was in it. Yesterday, I thought I'd be daring and put the valve in. I gave her the cup and VOILA! She started drinking from it. HALLELUJAH!

We, of course, made a big deal of it. Started "Whoo hoo"ing, clapping, etc. Crazy things parents do :)

That's one of many milestones down...
